Things to do in Wiltshire this Summer
During your stay at the Leigh Park Hotel, we want you to make the very best holiday memories. To make the most of your stay, we have put together a selection of things to do in Wiltshire. Whether you searching for family activities, or whether you’re looking to unwind and explore the area.. There’s something for everyone. Our top places to visit and events in Wiltshire this Summer include;
Visit the stunning Georgian stately home, set in hundreds of acres of landscaped gardens. Here, you can explore the pleasure grounds, including an arboretum, cascade, Hermits Cave and a beautiful lake.
Don’t worry parents, there’s plenty to keep the children entertained here too. Bowood is home to one of the best Adventure Playgrounds in the South West. Children can have fun climbing along the high adrenaline rope walks, whizzing down flume tubes and bouncing on the trampolines. There is also a soft play area for the little ones, which includes ball pool, a sand pit and a Wendy House. Children will also get the chance to meet friendly farm animals at Tractor Ted’s Little Farm.
♦ Event: The Great British Food Festival, from 26-28th August 2017 at Bowood House. The food festival is back for those budding bakers. There will be lots of foodie fun including, chef demos, GBBO contestant talks, food eating challenges and much more!
The Kennet and Avon canal runs through the delightful town of Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. So why not make the most the (hopefully) glorious Summer sun and hire out a bike or canoe from the Towpath Trail. Enjoy a cycle ride with your family along the canal and enjoy the beautiful countryside backdrops.
National Trust Treasures
Enjoy a day of fresh air and discovery at one of Wiltshire National Trust treasures… From the delightful village of Lacock, where you can wander around the picturesque streets and visit the historic and famous buildings, which have featured in films such as Harry Potter! To the magnificent Stourhead lake, where you can explore mystical grottoes and admire the exotic trees. Another hidden gem is The Courts Gardens, located in the quaint village of Holt. Here, you can stroll around the charming landscaped gardens and let your children run wild around the arboretum area and enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in the Rose Garden Tearooms.
Longleat Safari Park
Watch the monkeys make mischief, hear the lions roar and make friends with exotic creatures in the animal experience zone. You can also get lost in the magical maze and spend hours of fun in the adventure playground. After the mid-day madness, you can then wind-down and enjoy a relaxing stroll around the stunning gardens and admire the beautiful backdrops of the Longleat estate. You can also delve into the history of the Longleat House, where you can take a tour around the beautiful Elizabethan property.
♦ Event: Sky Safari Hot Air Balloon Festival at Longleat, from September 15-17th 2017. The return of the delightful balloon festival. Witness the incredible night glow as the hot air balloons take to the sky and light up Longleat.
